If you’ve ever fallen into a dreamy stupor while having your hair washed at the hairdresser on a Saturday morning, then you’ve been “champied”. The Hindi word champi refers to head massage and is the origin of the word shampoo. The technique has been used in India for thousands of years, having begun as a means of keeping hair healthy.
Today it is widely used as a means of relieving tension. The therapist will gently massage pressure points in the area around the central nervous system i.e. the scalp, neck, shoulders and face. This will then help to relieve stress, headaches and stiff joints.
